TRACKING GENOCIDAL VIOLENCE
Following election-related violence in Kenya, the Nairobi Woman’s Hospital collected samples from rape victims and sent them to Bode Technology Group for DNA testing. Bode, however, still awaits funding to perform the DNA analysis.
POST GENOCIDE REUNIFICATION
By comparing the DNA profiles of children left orphaned during the Rwandan genocide to volunteers looking for family members, Rwanda can take a large step towards healing and reconciliation.
HUMAN AND BODY PART TRAFFICKING
DNA testing could provide reliable genetic evidence to prevent illegal adoptions and child trafficking, and could prove to be a major deterrent in the murder of innocent victims for the collection of body parts in Africa.
GENDER-BASED SEXUAL VIOLENCE
Not only does DNA testing aid in the prosecution of those who commit rape, but it also helps to exonerate those who have been falsely accused. When properly and effectively implemented, the incident of rapes within regions with robust DNA testing decreases.
